مصطلح "القواعد النحوية الكلية" ابتدعه الباحثون المتأخرون، ولم يكن مِن وضع علماء النحو في القرون الخمسة الهجرية الأولى؛ بل كان النحويون القدماء المتقدِّمون يستعملون مصطلح "الأصول" و"القواعد" للتعبير عن القضايا المعبرة عن قانون كلي مُكوَّن من موضوع كلي، ومحمول كلي، وحُكمٍ. يسعى بحثنا إلى دراسة الأصول والقواعد دراسة إبستمولوجية لمعرفة بداية نشأﺗﻬا، وتطور مفهومها،
والصيغ اللغوية المنطقية الأنسب لصياغة القواعد والأصول. هل يجب أن ينطبق حكم القاعدة على كل جزئياﺗﻬا؟ هل يمكن أن توجد قواعد كبرى تندرج تحتها قواعد صغرى؟ ما أهمية علم المصطلح للتمييز بين المصطلحات والألفاظ التي زُعِمَ أنها تَدُلُّ على القواعد والأصول؟ هل يمكن أن نستغني ﺑﺎلقواعد الكبرى عن القواعد الصغرى؟ ما قيمة ربط مباحث الأصول بعلم النحو العام واللسانيات العامة؟ وما الغاية من علم أصول النحو؟
وقد اعتنت " مكتبة لسان العرب " بنشر هذا الكتاب لما تضمنه من تسهيل وتيسير وتفصيل، عسى أن نكون بهذا الصنيع قد أسدينا معروفاً وأغثنا ملهوفاً.

The book “The General Grammar Rules: The Problem of Terminology, Essence, and Classification” by Khalid bin Sulaiman Al-Kindi, Fayez Subhi Turki, and Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Shizawi | Publisher: Al-Qasimiya University Journal of Arabic Language and Literature.
The term "universal grammatical rules" was coined by later researchers and was not established by grammarians of the first five Hijri centuries. Instead, early and advanced grammarians used the terms "principles" and "rules" to express issues representing a universal law composed of a universal subject, a universal predicate, and a judgment.
Our research aims to study these principles and rules from an epistemological perspective to understand their origins, the evolution of their concepts, and the most suitable logical linguistic formulations for articulating these principles and rules. Should the rule apply to all its
particulars? Can major rules encompass minor rules? What is the importance of terminology science in distinguishing between terms and words claimed to indicate principles and rules? Can major rules suffice without minor rules? What is the value of linking the study of principles to general grammar and general linguistics?
